Since January 2010, DaVita has hired over 1,000 veterans that self identified, offering transitional support for teammates with a military background. Of these hires, over 100 filled leadership roles in the Village. In 2013, DaVita was recognized by GI Jobs, Civilianjobs.com, Military Times Edge and Military Spouse Magazine. We were also honored with a Patriot Award in December, 2012, a special award as it was submitted by a Dialysis Nurse in the Army Reserves. On September 26 2013, DaVita was honored to receive the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. This life time achievement honors DaVita’s commitment to supporting National Guard and Reserve employees. Nearly 3,000 employers were nominated for a Freedom Award this year. An awards committee composed of senior Department of Defense officials, business leaders and prior honorees selected just 15 companies to receive a 2013 award. DaVita is one of only two Colorado employers to receive the Freedom Award this year. “We are privileged to have more than 1,700 reservists, members of the Guard, military veterans and military spouses as part of the DaVita community,” said Kent Thiry, chairman and CEO of DaVita. “They make our company and our country stronger and better. It’s an honor to support them in every way we can.”
In 2012, DaVita published an “Operations Homefront Chart” identifying additional resources and special benefits for active duty military teammates (before, during and after deployment). One example of our benefit offerings (which exceed USERRA laws) is pay differential of up to 100% salary for mobilized service members, for up to five years. Also, if a teammate is deployed greater than thirty days, our DaVita Village Network will provide $5,000 per annum to ease expenses on the homefront for the family.
Beyond benefits, our culture illustrates how much we care. We’ve held Veterans Day celebrations across the country, including an event at our World Headquarters. We also launched the first Military Recruiting Newsletter (below).
