February 26, 2014 | A Day in the Life of a Dialysis Healthcare Administrator
In the last week, we’ve had three of our patients celebrate birthdays. After carefully consulting with our dietitian, we decided as a team that we’d be celebrating each patient’s birthday with a small cupcake (white cake and vanilla frosting, as kidney-friendly as you can get), balloons, and of course a party hat. It takes so little to put this together, but it clearly meant so much to our patients. It was well worth the extra trip to the store to get all of our “party supplies” for the clinic when we got to see our patients’ faces light up at seeing their chair decorated and a birthday cupcake and party hat awaiting them when they came in for treatment that day. It was a nice reminder that little things really do mean a lot and how easy it can be to bring myself back to why I find this job so fulfilling.
