Prior to joining DaVita HealthCare Partners, Samitt, 49, served as president and CEO of Dean Health Systems in Madison, Wis., one of the largest integrated health care providers in the Midwest. During his tenure in that role, which began in 2006, he had oversight of the organization’s operational, financial and strategic direction.
Prior to joining Dean, he served as a senior operations executive for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and Fallon Clinic, a multi-specialty group practice in central Massachusetts. Samitt currently serves as a commissioner for the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, commonly known as MedPAC, which advises Congress on Medicare policies.
Samitt earned his undergraduate degree from Tufts University; his Doctor of Medicine degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons; and a Master of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He trained in Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve in a senior leadership role with a nationally recognized organization whose passion is for transforming health care delivery, and whose service and core values are identical to those I have been practicing my entire career,” said Samitt.
“Craig brings the background and forward thinking that will be critical to DaVita HealthCare Partners’ growth and strength,” said Robert Margolis, co-chairman of DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. “We are excited about the way we are changing the delivery of health care in this country and Craig will be a big part of our next chapter.”
