A Look Back in Time
September 27, 2013 | A Day in the Life of a Dialysis Healthcare Administrator
I’m proud to say I’m a member of “The Phoenix Group”. That’s a way of referencing the first group of Facility Administrators who traveled to Arizona in June 2000 for a meeting with our, then new, CEO Kent Thiry. Our objective was to collectively discuss the building of a company (unnamed at the time) that would be new, ours and special.
There were just over 500 of us. We worked in small groups determined to create a vision for our new company. From those groups came our defining mission, “To Build The Greatest Dialysis Company the World Has Ever Seen” and our original seven Core Values: Service Excellence, Integrity, Team, Continuous Improvement, Accountability, Fulfillment and Fun. Every Administrator had the opportunity to vote on our new company name. From that vote came the name that means “We Give Life”.
If you are considering joining DaVita, know that you won’t be part of the staff because at DaVita we are a Village. Leadership, while not always easy, is always very clear because our Core Values are at the heart of every decision we make. They define the best of who we strive to be.
Did we succeed at becoming a company that is New, Ours and Special? No brag, just fact!
