March 3, 2014 | A Day in the Life of a Dialysis Healthcare Administrator
The phone rings at 6:00 am and it’s my administrative assistant from my clinic. Her voice is shaking a little and she tells me that the state and federal auditors are in the building. I quickly get out of bed and inform her of what she needs to do which she replied, I know. I get dressed quickly whiling running through all the checklist in my mind. Is the team ready? Do I have all the documents in place that are required? Is there anything that I am missing? As I get on my motorcycle and head in I get a great since of calm came over me. I know my team is ready and will do what is required of them on any given day. They have a ton of experience and it will show as the state and federal auditors go through the clinic. I get to the clinic and my dietitian has the auditors laughing and having what appeared to be a good time. She conducted the facility tour and was in an upbeat mood and it showed on the auditors faces. They were impressed with how clean the facility was and how well organized we were. The survey only went for only 2 days. We passed the survey with minimal deficiencies, all have since corrected. It was a proud moment for me to see my team flourish the way they did. We had been through an internal audit just one week prior to the state and federal audit.
Way to go team!
