Peritoneal Dialysis RN

Take charge, enable independence, and enjoy the relationships.

It takes a special person to work with dialysis patients, encourage them to take care of themselves, teach them how to administer their own treatments at home, and help them feel healthier in their day–to–day lives. Are you that person?

Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) nursing at DaVita gives you the opportunity to empower patients to take their health into their own hands and rediscover independence, while you continue to monitor their overall wellness. You take responsibility for the whole patient, not just what PD is doing for him or her. Each patient is unique, so you have to stay on your toes. You constantly apply your core nursing skills - diagnosing and implementing new care plans on a day–to–day basis.

As a DaVita Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse, you're calling the shots. Here's what you can expect:

Complexity Embrace a mentally demanding role with many moving parts.
"The PD role is more work than anyone expects; more thinking, planning and decision making. You have to be 10 steps ahead. We're the ones telling the doctor when there are problems. It's a lot to manage."

– Mary Helen B.

Teaching Empower patients to live healthier lives sharing your knowledge.
"It's the teaching I love. You see the patients feeling sick and afraid and then you do the teaching and treatments and see them get better. The transformation that happens is amazing. There's nothing like it!"

– Lisa M.

Autonomy Provide comprehensive patient care in an independent setting.
"I have more autonomy and more responsibility for the patient. I give complete care and have to manage it all, but I always have someone I can call for help."

– Deb. D.

Peritoneal Dialysis nurses work well under pressure in a very "organized chaos." You have to multi-task well - put down one patient's chart, start another, work with a physician, run out to get a medication, respond to a supplier's request, and more. With many loose ends to pull together and a whole lot of follow up, it can be challenging. The reward? It's dynamic, interesting, constantly changing environment where you find your rhythm and make it all come together.

Feel the accomplishment of tracking and managing many moving parts to deliver positive outcomes. Share your knowledge through teaching. Build trust and enjoy bonding with your patients and their families. Witness each patient's joy of rediscovering independence through peritoneal dialysis treatment.
