Divisional Trainer, Clinical Services

Position Description



The Divisional Trainer is responsible for all clinical training that teaches and integrates DaVita policies, procedures, and dialysis theory for the treatment of ESRD (End-Stage Renal Disease) or CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) patients for nursing and Patient Care Technicians positions for two divisions. Position provides timely and effective technical clinical training to new nurses (RNs and/or LPNs) and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and ongoing clinical training to all similar teammates in two divisions. Position also provides local in-services (classes using didactic/lecture method) as well as other education and skill checks as needed. Position may assist Facility Administrators (FAs) in presentation of mandatory in-services and other continuing education programs as requested. This position reports to the Director, Clinical Services and functions to varying degrees in the capacity of Quality Outcomes Specialist within the two divisions as needed.


1. Orients and provides direct clinical instruction to new Registered Nurses, LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians (as time allows) in basic dialysis theory, clinical skills and procedures including but not limited to machine setup, patient assessment, and documentation skills

  • Monitors and document weekly progress and provide validation feedback to the new clinical teammate, facility administrator, facility preceptor, and the Director of Clinical Services

  • May partner with Clinical Services Specialists and facility preceptors to provide hands-on training

  • Participates in the development and ongoing revisions of educational materials

  • Models DaVita Mission and Values to all new and current DaVita teammates

2.Monitors state regulations to ensure DaVita training programs meet or exceed requirements

  • Maintains current clinical knowledge and ensure that clinic training and education needs are met in accordance with DaVita’s policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as OSHA, CMS, AAMI, HIPAA, federal state and local regulations

  • Development and evaluation of training program in conjunction with Corporate Clinical Manager/CE Coordinator

  • Course evaluations completed with each class and utilized for improvement

  • Provide laboratory experiences during class training and clinical setting to assure that the material presented in clinical settings is accurate.

  • Evaluate student performance in class with quizzes, testing, and demonstration. Feedback provided to the Administrator and Medical Director at the end of the instruction thru verification of competency.

3. Document clinical evaluation via weekly teammate progress reports of each teammate


4.Provides support, continuing education, and ongoing mentoring to local facility preceptors.

May participate with FA to select facility preceptors and provide appropriate training to encourage preceptor retention

  • May assist in conducting facility preceptor training programs

  • May collaborate with Clinical Services Specialist (CSS) to monitor facility preceptors and to ensure compliance with DaVita policies and procedures Conducts preceptor quarterly meetings and in-services for preceptors 

5.May assist CSS team to complete

  • Implementation and monitoring of the goals to achieve desired results for division

  • Ensure quality management programs are in place and functional in the facilities

  • Participate in the QA/QI meetings as needed

  • Perform facility audits as indicated per audit policy and provide support in developing a plan of correction.

  • A.D.N degree from accredited school of nursing.
  • B.S.N preferred.
  • 4-6 years of experience.
  • RN license required.
  • Experience in teaching the adult learner with sound knowledge of adult learning theory and ability to present material to differing levels of base knowledge of novice to professional
