Director/Vice President of Public Policy and Government Programs, DaVita Medical Group - Denver CO or fWashington DC

Davita is seeking a Director or Vice President of Public Policy and Government Programs for its DaVita Medical Group (DMG, formerly HealthCare Partners) business unit. This person will help evaluate existing healthcare programs and develop new policies and demonstration programs to advance the DMG goal of physician-led coordinate care. The person will work closely with corporate strategy, finance and government affairs to develop and execute a multi-year policy strategy.

This is not a purely advocacy role, but rather someone who help to craft our policy agenda through a deep understanding of our business. This person will work closely with our state and federal advocacy teams to then advance that agenda. Through their work the Director will gain a strong understanding of the DaVita Medical Group business and significant exposure to senior leaders, positioning them well for future leadership opportunities within the DaVita Village.

Position Description
• Develop Public Policy strategy and align with senior leadership on strategic needs objectives, and prioritize areas of focus
• Work across teams to develop multi-year road map on the issues that are most actionable (regulatory, legislation, coalition building)
• Build data-driven materials for use with key internal and external audiences to advance our policy positions and objectives
• Identify opportunities for demonstration pilots and key policy initiatives
• Tracks legislation and relevant regulations and standards with a particular emphasis on Medicare Advantage, health reform/exchanges, and Medicaid issues
• Manages expectations and results for our management team and executive-level stakeholders
• Acts as thought-leader and lead advisor

  • Qualifications

    • Top-tier MBA preferred in Finance, Business, or related field or equivalent experience OR MD with significant consulting/business experience
    • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare, especially the payor or provider space
    • Previous experience working with corporate government affairs or with healthcare focused Public Policy groups
    • Creative/entrepreneurial spirit
    • Strong analytical, oral and written communication, and presentation skills
    • Ability to build relationships and broad network across healthcare

    Critical Skills

    • Evaluating industry trends, developing long-term implications and recommended strategies around regulatory and legislative issues in healthcare
    • Strategic and analytical thinking, strong capability of project management and problem solving skills, sound judgment and a willingness to resolve issues and problems in a timely manner
    • Excellent communications skills and have the ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively
