Position Description

  General Purpose of the Job:     

The Manager, Solution Architecture role is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Solution Architecture Team and coordinating with other IT leaders in the continuous improvement of the Solution Architecture Program as a key IT competency. This role will also have responsibility to ensure the solutions within our large IT transformation program are solid; well communicated; and well designed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of the logical and/or planned state of specific solutions

  • Ensuring project-based deliverables align to Enterprise Architecture defined principles, strategies, and standards

  • Owning the end-to-end design and best practices of architecturally sound solutions

  • Managing the administrative functions of the team to include timekeeping, resource assignments, escalations, and problem management

  • Managing the health of the team to include coaching, reviews, performance appraisals, counseling, training, and goal-setting

  • Coordinating multiple short-term project or advisory engagements

  • Being knowledgeable about changing trends in technology, application, and data architectures

  • Chairing the Solution Architecture Review Board meetings

  • Building a team; coordinating teambuilding activities; and mentoring teammates

  • Managing relationships across business, IT and vendor partners in the design and review of solution architectures

  • Driving efficient processes for assignment intake, prioritization, tracking and quality delivery

  • Establishment of solution design best practices, and consistent guidelines for solution architecture documents

  • Coordinating Solution Architecture activities with the Project Management Lifecycle and Enterprise Architecture Practices

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of information technology experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of five or more teammates
  • 3+ years of experience in a senior technical or architecture role
  • 2+ years hands-on experience with at least three of following technical disciplines

Application development (full development cycle)

Infrastructure design and implementation (network, server or storage)

Middleware & integration technologies (application server, message bus, service bus

Database design and implementation

Business process management systems

Large-scale systems integration

IT Systems Analysis and Design

Information Security

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to express thoughts clearly, knows how to listen, and contribute as an IT leader
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to quickly deconstruct complex problems into viable solutions
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal direction and maximum accountability
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare industry experience that fosters better requirements aligned to common standards and regulations (HL7, HITSP, NIST, HIPAA, ICD-10, NCPDP)
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks and methodologies (TOGAF, FEAF)
  • Knowledge of Project Management (PMOBK) and Service Management (ITIL) practices
  • Knowledge of IT Governance frameworks and methodologies (COBIT)
  • Experience developing Roadmaps, Technology Standards and Architecture Patterns
  • Technology selection experience research, RFIs/RFPs, technology product evaluations
  • Business development and budgetary planning experience
