The Supervisor I, is responsible for supervision over multiple functions within the Specimen Processing department including: monitoring the workflow from sample receipt and unpacking, sample accessioning and processing; problem resolution; transport to the laboratory departments for testing; provides for day-to-day guidance on teammate scheduling and performance. This position evaluates and monitors compliance with service guarantees and specimen quality requirements. Supervisor I may be responsible for the supervision of a non-CLIA/CAP regulated technical area in the laboratory. This position ensures adherence to corporate standard policies and procedures related to job performance, customer interactions, teammate relations, and information confidentiality for clinical research contracts and resulting clinical studies. This position does not require registry license and may be assigned to work a designated shift on day/evening/night. This position reports to the Department Manager or Director.
Performs competency evaluations and periodic performance reviews as required.
Provides overall direction, communication, and oversight for teammates performance by evaluating the workflow of departmental tasks or assignments to ensure effective implementation and performance:
o Ensures teammate adherence to procedures and quality assurance requirements;
o Participates and/or leads in the development of and compliance with all departmental policies and adherence to policies and procedures.
o Serves as a resource to teammates, providing oversight and support to training and competency program
o Monitors performance to established targets, goals or metrics
o Identifies opportunities for process improvement within the department and between lab business lanes for efficiencies
Ensures duties performed within the main laboratory as needed or indicated by workload requirements.
Resolves operational as well as quality issues related to workload.
Facilitates team decisions, encourages debate and collaboration, handles constructive conflict resolution, organizes and supervises department teammates.
Monitors work flow and delegates responsibilities to team members.
Establishes staffing plans to promote the most effective use of all teammates.
Ensures coverage during teammate absences.
Performs infection control and safety policies, maintains an active role in the laboratory’s quality improvement program (incident reports, CAP surveys, TAT’s, service guarantees) and ensures levels of compliance of established laboratory outcome standards are met.
Maintains confidentiality of company’s records, clients, and personnel matters at all times as per policy.
Provides leadership to direct reports.
Manages all teammates’ employment activity such as hiring, promoting, job performance, evaluations, and disciplinary actions with appropriate approvals as required.
Maintains teammates records to include written performance evaluation of all staff records to be kept in compliance with DaVita policy and any applicable laws:
o Ensures accurate, timely processing of ePCNs
o Evaluates, records and processes teammate reviews and compensation according to company policy and in timely manner
o Reviews and approves time cards of teammates as required for payroll
Knows, understands, follows, and implements basic wage and hour laws, federal, state and local laws and regulations, Medicare, and legislation affecting employment
Develops and conducts educational programs to keep teammates up-to-date on DaVita policies, new laws and regulations impacting work, and other information necessary to provide knowledgeable, accurate work output
Maintains familiarity with and communicates to teammates DaVita programs impacting teammates including but not limited to Triple Crown
Other duties as assigned.

High school degree required.
Associates or Bachelor degree is preferred
Minimum of two (2) years clinical laboratory experience in related work position and/or industry required
Minimum one (1) year supervisory experience preferred
Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office preferred
