Corporate Claims Supervisor - Worker's Compensation

Position Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This role assists the Corporate Claims Manager, with supervision of the company’s multi line program including Worker’ Compensation, Commercial Property, Auto Liability, and other corporate claim matters. The role oversees all claim management activities, inclusive of managing internal staff, claims reporting, claim audits, metrics, and compliance  with  department policies and procedures. Critical to this role is the ability to develop and maintain trusted, collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization. This individual works closely with various insurance brokers, claim services vendors, and defense counsel. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.
  • Manage all corporate claims, including Workers’ Compensations, Property, Auto, Cyber, Pollution, and other claim types.
  • Responsible for managing claims staff, develop performance review evaluations, mentor and develop direct reports, and deliver corrective action, as needed. 
  • Oversee all aspects of corporate claims handling including reserving, communication, documentation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement.
  • Ensure claim processing is consistent with regulatory guidelines, best practices, and internal policy and procedure.
  • Create quality controls to ensure work product meets or exceeds established standards.
  • Complete regular quality assurance claim audits,  records results and counsel staff on improving work quality protocols.
  • Prepare and analyze scheduled or ad hoc metrics reports and/or presentations for the claims department and leadership.
  • Review and analyze policies, procedures, and  workflow's to identify ongoing opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
  • Analyze Enterprise-wide claim trends and  make recommendations concerning cost mitigation and loss prevention.
  • Create departmental goals, and maintain consistency around established policies and procedures.
  • Assist  with claim reviews, SOX audit process, and stewardship meetings.  
  • Provide claims management training and education, as needed or requested.
  • Escalate exceptions, outliers, or circumstances that are out-of-norm as they occur, and seek guidance in resolution.
  • Participate in meetings, prepare and present presentations, and/or lead and collaborate on special projects, as determined by the Corp Claims Manager.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to:
  • Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training, as needed
  • Understands and follows all Company and Department policies and procedures
  • Flexible schedule and ability to travel up to 15% is required

Qualifications

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, include computer skills as required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related area is required.
  • Claims designation is preferred (AIC, WCCA, WCCP,)
  • Minimum three years’ experience managing and/or handling Workers’ Compensation claims and previous people management experience is required.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in working with data.
  • Superior problem solving, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are critical.
  • Must be trustworthy, and willing to be entrusted with highly confidential information.
  • Excellent time management capabilities along with a working knowledge and practice of claim functions coupled with analytical abilities.
  • Excellent leadership qualities in the supervision of staff, with ability to motivate.
  • General knowledge of insurance contracts, including legal aspects of court procedures affecting legal liability.
  • Excellent MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint), Web applications, and well known industry risk and claims systems is critical.
