There are a lot of choices for how you can focus your career at DaVita, with career path options that fit different lifestyles:

Home Dialysis

Some dialysis patients don't get hemodialysis in a center but perform peritoneal dialysis (PD) or hemodialysis at home. These patients also rely on nephrology nurses to plan, coordinate and oversee their care. While many of the responsibilities of the PD and home hemodialysis (HHD) PCTs are the same as in-center hemodialysis PCTs, there are some differences.

PD and HHD PCTs help assist the Home RN with teaching and trainingtheir patients how to perform their own treatments at home and give them the knowledge to know what to do if any complications occur during their treatment.

In-Center Hemodialysis

A hemodialysis PCT is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient and providing appropriate care to meet those needs, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.

From monitoring each patient’s vital signs and response to treatment—to providing post-dialysis care and everything in between, the dialysis PCT plays a crucial role in managing the complex and multifaceted care of patients with kidney disease.

Hospital Services Group

Hospital Services Group is a part of DaVita that contracts with over 800 hospitals across the country to provide dialysis care for all patients when admitted to the hospital. PCTs are able to provide hemodialysis treatments in this acute setting under the supervision of registered nurse.

Skilled Nursing Facility

Nephrology PCTs work wherever patients require dialysis treatment—this can include a skilled nursing facility. We typically use a den
model—hemodialysis is delivered by our dedicated care team at approximately six stations in a common room of the Skilled Nursing Facility. Patients receive the same high-quality therapy as they received in outpatient centers at their place of residence.

Performs job under direction and supervision. Completing PCT
training programs.

Has completed training programs.

PD/HHD: Can operate home equipment and understands vendor collateral and education opportunities.

Experienced

Has earned CMS approved PCT certification, can administer more advanced steps of dialysis care.

PD/HHD: Trained in PD and/or HHD, can support RN in patient care partner education and troubleshooting access complications.

Advanced

Shares expertise through training and coaching, serves as a preceptor, handles complex cannulations and patient situations, and may be trained in multiple modalities.

PD/HHD: Supports administrative duties, supply management and ordering.

Expert

Leads facility initiatives, coordinates PCTs, and is trained in multiple modalities. Coaches teammates, may be a preceptor, takes on additional roles such as master mixologist, expert cannulator, Kidney Smart instructor, and modality educator.

PD/HHD: Facilitator for modality choice.
